Client: Bonita Vista Girls Basketball Team
Objective: For this project, I created the branding identity for the girls’ basketball team that I coach. While each sport at the school already had its own unique branding, the girls’ basketball team did not, so I took the opportunity to design one from scratch. I developed a logo, incorporated the school’s existing bold and dynamic color palette, and chose typography that captured the team’s energy and spirit. To ensure a cohesive look across all platforms, I also designed team gear, jerseys, social media and e-blasts. The result is a distinctive and professional brand identity that helps the team stand out and build a stronger connection with the school community.

“Leaving a Legacy that Blossoms”, was our team motto for the 2024-2025 season. This motto represented our first year together as a program—my first year as a Varsity coach and the team’s first year on Varsity as well. We wanted to make sure that we started our legacy together.
art direction
When brainstorming the art direction for my team, I knew I wanted to focus on the history and passion of the school, Bonita Vista. This is one of the oldest school in the district and I wanted to show the history by layering a newspaper texture and a grain texture to some of the graphics. By incorporating smoke and gradients to the backgrounds as well, it allowed me to implement the passion and energy I was seeking in this art direction. For photo treatments, it was important to isolate the players to give them the spotlight in the graphics. The players themselves showed their personalities in the photos so I made sure to include their goofiness into the graphics.
We were fortunate this year to create new jerseys for the team. The vendor, BSN, had a set of fonts and jerseys we could mix and match from. I picked the font that closely resembled our brand font, Field Gothic. I was also able to add in our logo to the shorts (seen on #4’s shorts on the right). The girls also wanted jerseys that stood out, so the military camo fabric was selected to pair with our mascot’s lore of warfare.
e-blasts
To communicate to all the parents and players, I opted to create a weekly e-blast by using MailChimp. Each week’s schedule was a design exercise for me to create different looks with each e-blast while still maintaining the branding guidelines that I created.
