Client: The New Children’s Museum
Objective: For the New Children’s Museum’s annual gala, I developed the event branding for Circus Spectacular, an evening of whimsy, wonder, and bold spectacle. Inspired by the magic of the big top, this theme invited guests to step into a world of dazzling performances, playful surprises, and immersive circus-themed experiences. From the moment guests arrived in their themed costumes to the final act of the evening, Circus Spectacular delivered a visual and experiential feast that embodied the New Children’s Museum’s spirit of play, creativity, and imagination.
This was my first time using a lift! Although it was scary at first, having the signs mocked up before hand made the whole set up fast and easy.
art direction
Working closely with the gala chairs and Museum leadership, the overall aesthetic took inspiration from classic circus posters, carnival ephemera, and bold, high-contrast color schemes. The challenge was to elevate the theme beyond cliché carnival visuals by incorporating artistic textures, layered compositions, and custom illustrations that made the branding feel curated rather than commercial. The art direction extended seamlessly across both digital and print materials, ensuring a unified visual experience throughout the event. Beyond static visuals, the art direction encouraged guest participation and engagement. Photo op backdrops featured oversized illustrated props, creating a blend of physical and digital storytelling. By blending theatrical grandeur with an artful, modern approach, the Circus Spectacular branding elevated the gala into a fully immersive experience that delighted guests and reinforced the New Children’s Museum’s mission of creativity through play.
